Building a sustainable future togetherA unique piece of Zeeland
Scoutcentrum Zeeland is a truly unique part of Zeeland. It borders — and partly lies within — the Natura 2000 protected area of Lake Veere. At Scoutcentrum Zeeland, we are committed to a sustainable future by taking responsibility for our impact on nature and the environment. We have implemented various initiatives and practices to contribute to sustainability, nature conservation, and biodiversity.

Sustainable forest management
Our forest management focuses on maintaining a healthy and diverse woodland with the highest possible ecological value, while ensuring that all scouts visiting our site can safely enjoy scouting activities.
This means we carefully select trees: preserving future trees that are vital, removing dead trees that could pose a danger, felling trees to make space for others, and planting native trees and shrubs where beneficial.
Through sustainable forest management, we contribute to the protection of animal and plant species and create a healthy habitat for local flora and fauna.
Waste separation
One of the key aspects of our sustainability policy is waste separation. We encourage all our visitors to separate their waste, and have provided several bins for paper, glass, and general waste.
Additionally, we accept deposits of returnable bottles and cans, and there is a special collection point for used batteries.
By separating waste, we ensure that materials are recycled and reused, significantly reducing the amount sent to landfill. Our waste processor also supports separation at the source.

Sustainable and circular construction
In (re)construction projects, we strive to minimize our ecological footprint. This means we prioritize sustainable building materials and energy-efficient solutions when constructing or renovating our facilities.

The walls of our toilet buildings are made from recycled plastic, a conscious choice that demonstrates the potential for reusing plastic waste.

The HV-house and the administrator’s house are predominantly built from wood, with exterior finishes made from recycled mooring posts, showcasing an early commitment to eco-friendly building methods.

Our storage shed for pioneering poles is also built from old mooring posts, proving that reused materials are far from waste.

We only use lighting where and when it is truly necessary. All our lighting is based on LED technology, which not only saves energy but also extends the lifespan of our fixtures.
